The state government has ordered the closure of the Valley of flowers in Dehradun due to heavy rains and landslides. The officials said that the valley was shut down after the authorities received reports about the landslide that happened on the way to Dwarapu. The order came after the district administration had issued a warning to tourists about the risk of more landslides.

The Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand is a popular tourist destination but severe landslides recently hit this beautiful town in a road closure. landslides occurred due to heavy rains that resulted in forming huge cracks on the trek route. Owing to this, the Valley of Flowers which is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site will remain closed for visitors till any further notice. Officials state that the route to the Valley of Flowers will reopen only after the restoration of cracks

According to  Divisional Forest Officer Nand Ballabh Sharma, the landslide happened a little ahead of Dwaripul which is itself a glacier point and a sliding zone. Hence, all routes leading to the Valley of Flowers have been closed. Meanwhile, a team has been assigned to check if any tourists got stuck in the valley. Also, workers have been assigned to clear the trek route amid the landslides and rains that continue to hit the stretch.

According to the statement given by the forest guard, big cracks have developed on the trek route and boulders might fall at any time on visitors. He added that earlier the trek route used to be 10 m wide but has now been reduced to a couple of feet. After heavy rainfall for five hours, there’s not enough space left on the trek route to stand. It shows a high possibility that the rest of the trek route will be washed away soon if the rainfall continues for a couple of hours.
