Many people may not know about Rudraprayag’s Kartik Swami Temple, which is over 200 years old. The Uttarakhand Tourism Department built the temple to attract tourists and devotees from south India and bring more attention to this historic place.

It seems like this advancement of the temple is a part of making Uttrakhand a world-class tourism destination for all as earlier this month Uttrakhand government announce plans to convert Auli to a  world-class adventure tourism destination

The temple is of great religious and cultural significance because it is the only temple in Uttarakhand that is dedicated to Lord Kartikeya. For those who are not familiar with Hindu mythology, Kartikeya was Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s older son. He is revered as Skand or Murugun in the south.

Significance of the temple

The temple is very important from a religious and cultural point of view because it is the only place in Uttarakhand where Lord Kartikeya is honored.

Location

The temple is located around 40 miles away from the Rudraprayag district of Uttrakhand. Devotees have to hike for 3 km from Kanakchauri village to get to the temple. It’s going to be a tough journey for everyone to hike to the top, but the destination is incredible, so don’t give up!

When asked about the temple’s mythological significance, Uttarakhand’s tourism minister, Satpal Maharaj, said, “The Kartik Swamy temple has great religious significance in Hindu mythology because it is here that Lord Kartikeya, who was angry at his parents, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, for choosing their other son, Lord Ganesha, when both were asked to circle the earth, offered his bones as a sign of his devotion.”

He added that by building this temple, they are hoping to draw visitors from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Since tourists haven’t been to Kartik Swamy Temple in a while, it is important to fix it up and let people know about it now.

Poonam Chand, the additional director of the Uttrakhand Tourism Department, says that they are now focusing their attention on promoting the Kartik Swamy temple. They are also running a number of promotional programs to bring more tourists to Uttrakhand.
