Route Guide to Reach Millennium Park

About Millennium Park

Millennium Park is a public park in the Chicago Loop community area of   Illinois, operated by the Chicago Department of Culture and managed by MB Real Estate. The park is intended to celebrate the third millennium and is a prominent civic center near the shoreline of Lake Michigan, which covers a 24.5-acre stretch of Northwest Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parks, Illinois Central railroad yards, and parking lots. Bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive, and East Monroe Drive, the park has a range of public art. As of 2009, Millennium Park has only attracted the Navy Pier as a Chicago tourist attraction, and by 2017, it has become the number one tourist attraction in the Midwestern United States. In 2015, the park became the site of the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting. Planning for the park began in October 1997. Construction of this famous park began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was inaugurated on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule. The three-day opening ceremony was attended by about 300,000 people and was the inaugural concert of the Grant Park Orchestra and choir.
