Greenland, the largest island in the world, is experiencing a major threat of going extinct lately due to increasing pollution and global warming. It lies in the North Atlantic Ocean and is a popular tourist spot for globetrotters. The place is well known for its vast tundra and immense glaciers, but this will vanish soon if the Greenland government fails to bring the visitor rush under control.

While more tourists are planning to visit this island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, officials are considering ways to bring this visitor rush under control. Actually, officials are very much concerned about the rising temperature and changing climate in Greenland. future as they are threatened by global warming and its predicaments.

The findings, published in Nature Geoscience, show that the ice sheet is losing mass at an average rate of 1.8 billion tonnes per year – about twice the previous estimate. The meltwater is flowing down rivers towards the ocean, where it could raise sea levels by 0.3m (1ft) over the coming centuries. Scientists say the melting is caused by warmer air temperatures and increased rainfall.

According to a recent scientific study, the Arctic has warmed up over the past 40 years almost four times faster than the rest of the planet. If global warming continues unchecked, the ice sheets will soon become unstable and collapse.

The postcard of Greenland brought around 50,000 visitors in 2021. This was more than ten times the town’s population. Among these, more than half of tourists make a brief stop in Greenland during their Arctic journey.

With the opening of an international airport in the country, officials are anticipating seeing more tourists in the upcoming year. This will eventually boon the economy of the country, but also cause a lot of distress for the citizens. After all, everyone in Greenland is really worried about climate change and melting ecosystems.
