Sambhar Lake, about 65 km from Jaipur, is another tourist attraction. This most famous lake in Jaipur is part of Sambhar, better known as Salt Lake City. The city also includes the famous Sambhar Lake National Park and the Sambhar Lake Tiger Reserve. Lake Sambhar or Sambhar lake is said to be the largest saline lake in India. Lake Sambhar, the main center of salt production, was formerly owned by various rulers of Jaipur and Jodhpur but was later leased to the British and later taken over by the Rajasthani government.

The lake was built in the 17th century and is named after the famous King Kachwaha Rajput, Raja Man Singh. Turn onto Tonk Road and go straight for approx. 30 km. It takes you to one of the top lakes in Jaipur – Lake Chandlai. It is very popular with bird watchers, so you are guaranteed to have the opportunity to run your own business without anyone lurking on your shoulders or disturbed. Everyone loves birds, but some people love them. If you are one of the few, Lake Chandlai is the most visited lake to visit in Jaipur. You can spend an excellent half-day birding while in Jaipur. Another impressive lake in Jaipur is Lake Maota, formerly referred to as Mahavata because of the large wat trees nearby. This stunning lake in Jaipur is located at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Amer or Amber Fortress. One of Amer city’s best-kept secrets is the 17th century “Sagar” Lake, which was the initial source of water for the neighboring forts of Amer, Jaigarh, and the city and people of Amer. Sliding across the Kheri Gate and Anokhi Museum, the lake can be reached by car, and then you can walk around its boundary line, which is divided into two parts – the upper and lower Sagar. If you visit Amer or the Anokhi Museum in the evening, stop for while because the sunset turns Amer’s mud-plated walls into golden blood waiting to be discovered.
