History:

The Baku Museum of Modern Art was founded in December 2009 after the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The museum is the first state museum in the country fully devoted to modern and contemporary art.  The museum has three main exhibitions in which a wide range of modern and contemporary art is represented. The exhibitions include Azerbaijani art as well as international art. There is also a permanent collection of over 1,000 works, which include paintings, sculptures, graphics, installations and video art by Azerbaijani and international artists. The museum hosts lectures and educational programs, exhibitions of contemporary Azerbaijani and international art, and film screenings. It also has a library, auditoriums for conferences and seminars, and a cafe. In addition to its exhibitions and programs, the museum seeks to promote contemporary Azerbaijani art in the field of international art. It has held exhibitions in Germany, Turkey, and the United States, and participated in art fairs in Basel (Switzerland) and Venice (Italy).
