History 

This palace was built when the city of Udaipur was formed. For the next 400 years, the palace was the main site of administration, built and rebuilt by many kings. The palace region belonged to the Mewar Kingdom in 568 BC. In the 16th century, the kingdom was inherited by Maharana Uday Singh. It decided to build a new capital kingdom, closer to Lake Pichola when its capital, Chittor, was at war. The site was chosen on the advice of a hermit the king had met during one of his hunting tours. The first edifice was the royal court. During the construction, Udai Singh II died and his son took over the construction. In the Battle of Haldighati, however, the palace came under Akbar’s control. He later returned to the Rajputs, and construction continued until it fell into the hands of the British in the 19th century. Even during British rule, Rajput built many structures within the complex. After independence, the palace complex came under the rule of the Indian government.

By Road

Udaipur is connected to various cities through an extensive network of bus services. Regular buses are available from Delhi, Jaipur, Indore, and Kota that connect Udaipur. Depending on your budget and needs, passengers can choose between air-conditioned buses, luxury buses, or public transport buses. Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) buses connect Udaipur with Chittorgarh (115 km),  Bhilwara (166 km), and Jodhpur (260 km), among others.
