History:
is a landmark Buddhist temple located at the Ratnapura district in Sri Lanka. It is one of the oldest and most renowned Buddhist shrines in the country and is home to a large number of relics that are believed to have been deposited there by the Hindu King Valagamba around seventeen centuries ago. As per belief he came to Ratnapura while escaping from the Indian invasion in order to protect the relics.
