Worship Method:
Worship at the Suthumalai Puvaneswary Amman Temple is conducted in the traditional South Indian style. Worshippers begin by ringing the bell outside the main shrine as an act of veneration. The priest then lights the diya (heated coconut oil lamp) as an offering to the deity. During the worship, traditional South Indian music is played, while the priest offers incense and flowers. After circumambulating the shrine (kakutsavam), milk and honey mix (theertham) is offered to the deity. Kumkumam (sacred red powder) is put on the forehead of the deity as a mark of respect. Prayers are offered to the deity in the form of pooja (ritual prayer). After the culmination of the pooja, aarathi is performed and the devotees are given prasadam (sacred food).
