St. Jacob Church in Slovenia is an 18th-century Roman Catholic church located in the village of Prevorje in the Municipality of Dolenjske Toplice. Originally dedicated to the Lord in 1721, the current church was orinally built in 1780 and began service as a pilgrimage site in 1785. In 2015, it was declared a Cultural Monument of special importance in Slovenia. It is one of the best churches in Slovenia which you must visit.

History:

The original one-aisled church was designed and built by engineer Talmač from Kostanjevica and dedicated to the Lord in 1721. Its current building was constructed on the same site by stonemason Miha Ciglič in 1780 and his son Jožef Gasser completed the church in 1784. The church was then officially consecrated in 1785. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Slovenia.

The church is built in the Baroque style and made from exclusively local materials, such as lime-whitewash, stone and wood. Its simple Baroque interior contains a wooden Altar of Saint Jacob and a number of antique Baroque paintings from the 18th century, including the main painting depicting Saint Jacob at the altar, which is said to have been painted by the Dutch painter, Hendrik van der Werff.
