Holy Archangel Michael Orthodox Church, located in the Historic District of Riga, Latvia, is one of the country's oldest churches and is an integral part of the Latvian Orthodoxy. It was built around the year 1331 as a chapel to honor the city's defender, Archangel Michael. The church was later restored during the 18th century. History:

The earliest documents about the church mention the presence of the Archangel Michael on the south side of the church. The exact date of construction is yet unknown but the 140-meter-high bronze cross that stands atop its dome dates back to 1693. Since then, several repairs and renovations have been conducted to preserve its current form. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Latvia.
