Worship Method:

Wat Pha Ngam is a Buddhist temple in Luang Prabang, Laos. The temple is known for its unique worship method, which follows the Theravada tradition of Buddhism. Worshipers will join in these chanting sessions as they recite traditional chants and prayers. The chanting is done in both Lao and Pali, the language of the Theravada Buddhist scriptures. In Wat Pha Ngam, offerings are also an important part of worship. Each morning, worshipers will typically bring food, fruits and incense offerings to present to the monks and laypeople up at the main worshipping hall. The offerings are distributed amongst the monks, laypeople and, finally, to the monastery's statue of Buddha, which symbolically represent the teachings of the Buddha, and is thought to help bring spiritual merit into the worshipers’ life. Additionally, the worshipers will light candles and oil lamps while chanting and pray to bring good luck and health to the Buddhist community. They may also engage in ceremonial bowing and circumambulation, as well as reading from Theravada scriptures, whereupon the chant leaders will respond according to scripture. The worshippers’ session at Wat Pha Ngam ends with the ringing of a bell and casting of flower petals around the temple and monastery walls to symbolize the fragility of life and the transient quality of the material world. Afterward, the worshipers may silently meditate or make a final donation to seal their visit. This most visited temple in Laos
