Worship Method:
The Wat Pha Ong temple in Luang Prabang, Laos is renowned for its awe-inspiring beauty and serenity. The temple is visited by local Buddhists and other religious followers from different parts of the world who come to take part in the unique ritual. The prayer ritual begins with the devotee offering three traditional bows as a gesture of respect. First, the worshipper bows to the guardian angels of the temple. Next, they bow towards the statue of the Buddha and thirdly, towards the altar. Then, the devotee proceeds to light a single joss stick and incense burner followed by a chant of eight verses to the Buddha. After that, a chant of “Namo Sakyamuni Ye” in dedication to the Buddha is recited, along with the traditional offering of flowers, fruit, incense, candles and food. The devotee concludes their prayer by bowing to the altar three times, folding their hands in respects and performing the traditional “Wai” gesture. This is followed by the worshipper standing up and then reverently bowing to the altar before exiting the temple.
