The first mention of the church appeared in 1577 in the Zásmcny zpravodaj newsletter. The original church building was built during the 16th century and remained unchanged until the 1700s. During that period, the church was renovated using Baroque elements. In the late 18th century, the church was nearly destroyed by an earthquake, but it was reconstructed in the early 19th century.
