St. Christopher's Anglican Church in Barbados is an historic church located in the capital city of Bridgetown. The church is part of the Anglican diocese of Barbados and the Windward Islands. It has its origins as far back as the 1660s and has been restored several times over the centuries. Today it is known for its beautiful architecture and interesting history. History of St. Christopher's Anglican Church St. Christopher's has a long and interesting history that can be traced back to 1662 when it was built on a foundation of an old Jesuit college. The church was restored several times over the centuries and by the 1800s had become one of the most important Anglican churches in Barbados. During the 19th century the church was the site of two coronations held by King William IV and Queen Victoria. In 2003, the church was damaged by hurricanes and had to be restored. St. Christopher's Anglican Church Facts • St. Christopher's Church is known for its distinctive neo-Gothic style of architecture. • The church is home to a working church bell named “Great Harry” which was obtained from a former British Royal Navy ship. • St. Christopher's is one of the oldest churches in Barbados and is widely considered to be the first Anglican church on the island. • The church is home to one of the oldest registers of births, marriages and deaths in Barbados which dates back to 1668. St. Christopher's Anglican Church Services • Worship services are held every Sunday at 10am and 6pm, as well as midweek special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. • Sunday School for children is held at 10am and is followed by a children’s church service for children aged 4-11. • A monthly healing service takes place on the first Saturday of the month at 10am. • Youth services are also available for young people aged 18 and under, as well as weekly bible studies.
