About Stanley Park
Stanley Park is mostly surrounded by the waters of Burrard Inlet and English Bay. It is a 405-acre public park bordering downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and. The park has a long history. The land was initially used by indigenous peoples for millennia before British Columbia colonized the British during the 1858 Fraser Canyon gold rush, and it was one of the first areas discovered in the city. For many years after colonization, the prosperous park with abundant resources will also be home to non-native settlers. The land was later converted to Vancouver’s first park when the city was built in 1886. Lord Stanley was a British politician who was recently appointed Governor-General. Originally known as the Carbon Peninsula. It is named after him, the 16th Count of Derby. It was intended for military fortifications to protect the entrance to Vancouver Harbor. Vancouver City Council successfully applied for a parking lease in 1886, which was granted for $ 1 a year. Lord Stanley opened the park in his name in September 1888.
