About Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle is a historic building that has served many purposes since its creation in the 13th century. Today it serves as a governmental complex. Dublin Castle was originally built in 1230 as a defensive structure by the order of King John. It was then the seat of the British Government of Ireland until the 16th century, the Kingdom of Ireland until the 18th century, and until 1922 it was the headquarters of the Government of the United Kingdom in Ireland. In the middle of the castle is a courtyard surrounded on all sides by large walls, accompanied by watchtowers. Over the years, however, due to time and the damage suffered by many fires, many renovations have taken place and there are hardly any medieval castles left at all. Today, the castle serves as a tourist attraction as well as for state celebrations. The various halls and rooms of the castle are used for different occasions, and the area of the castle also hosts music concerts.
