Located in the heart of the Al Khuwair district, the Al Salam North Mosque is a large Islamic complex in the Sultanate of Oman. This impressive structure features a Mashrabiya style minaret, a large main hall, a library, separate prayer halls for women and men, and a community garden. The mosque was commissioned by Oman’s ruler, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, in 2011 and completed in 2019. The mosque’s main hall is rectangular in shape and topped off with a white-domed roof. This room is adorned with rich colours and decorative flourishes to add to its beauty. The room is home to the main prayer area, as well as several Quran verses, woven carpets, and luxurious lounge seating. An internal staircase leads to the women's prayer hall, which features a glass dome to allow natural light to filter in. The ornate minaret overlooks the cerulean shoreline of the Gulf of Oman and is the tallest feature of the complex. Standing at a height of 72.5 metres, the minaret provides a majestic view of the city and its surrounds. The mosque also houses a large library stocked with Islamic literature and research materials. A café, a souvenir shop, and a large landscaped garden with a reflecting pool exist on the grounds of the mosque.
