Brief History:
Al Hafa Mosque is located in the heart of Muscat, the capital of Oman, and is one of the oldest mosques in the country. The mosque has been around since the 11th century, when it was first constructed by the Imam of Oman, Sultan Zakaria bin Sultan bin Saif al-Ya’rubi. The original structure was destroyed by the Portuguese in the 16th century but was then rebuilt by the Imam and his brother Hazza. The mosque is still in use today and is a popular place of worship for Omanis and visitors alike. Al Hafa Mosque also features some stunning architectural features, including marble columns, a stone mihrab, and a large prayer hall. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Hafa Mosque in Oman is a traditional example of Islamic architecture. It was built in the late 18th century during the rule of the Al Said Dynasty. The mosque is rectangular in shape and has a courtyard in the center. Three large domes sit atop the minaret, giving it a distinct look. The mosque features four minarets and four doors, all of which are framed by an elaborate stucco façade. Inside the mosque, the walls are decorated with intricate Islamic patterns and stitching. The interior also features large arches, columns, and an elaborately-decorated mihrab. A pulpit and lectern are also included within the mosque, and two owan al-kedim can be found in the courtyard. The mosque is built using limestone blocks and has a simple, yet elegant, aesthetic. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
