History:

St. John’s Church was founded in 1390 by the German Master Builders of the Teutonic Order, and it was the first Brick Gothic Church in the region. In 1476, the church’s first major expansion was started, making it one of the largest in the city at that time. During the Reformation in the 16th and 17th centuries, St. John’s Church was taken over by the Lutheran Church and was used by Lutherans until 1783. Unfortunately, the church was destroyed over time, particularly during the Great Northern War in its first half of the 18th century. The restoration of St. John’s Church began in 1783 and was completed in 1804, after which it returned to its original Catholic denomination.
