The first Latter-day Saint mission in the Baltic nations was established in 1927 in Jelgava, and expanded to other cities, including Riga, in 1928. After World War II, a new mission was created in Latvia in 1991 with the opening of an office in Riga. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Latvia.
