History:

The first mention of the church dates back to 1747 when it is mentioned in a letter in which the then Bishop of Riga, Francis Xavier Fonseca, requested permission to build a new church for the small Catholic community living in Sigulda. The original church was built in 1814 by a nobleman named Iwano Dzintar. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Latvia.

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a single-nave church styled in classicist architecture, which features a low bell tower at the western end. Its interior is richly decorated with artwork depicting images of saints and biblical scenes.

The church is currently part of the Parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Riga. Mass is offered every Sunday at 9 AM and the church also offers meetings, catechism classes, special services and other activities for its members.
