Wat Aham is a Theravada Buddhist temple located in Luang Prabang, Laos. The temple’s traditional form of worship is known as Puja, which involves chanting, offering of flowers, burnings of incense and candle and butter lamps. Puja also includes prostrations, salutations, paying homage and making supplications. Worshippers are also allowed to partake in monks’ meditation days, where visitors can join the monks in chanting and meditation. Offerings during these ceremonies are also done by lay practitioners. The temple also hosts religious ceremonies such as water blessings, tree blessings, and funerals. These are interactive ceremonies in which visitors will be instructed on the proper way of making offerings and if accepted, will be involved in the prayers. For funerals, monks will be chanting and visitors can kneel in front of the dead body to pay silent homage. Times of worship allow for both visitors and citizens to partake in the offering of alms and offerings to the monks who will offer a blessing in return.
