Sé Catedral de Bissau is the main Catholic Cathedral of Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau. It was constructed by the Spanish and Portuguese missionaries in the 18th century and originally built to play a role as governmental edifices. The cathedral was later occupied and damaged during African-Portuguese war and was rebuilt several times. It is currently one of the oldest surviving religious structures in the country. History:

According to records, the construction of the Catholic Cathedral of Bissau was led by two Spanish and Portuguese missionaries, Father Francisco de Caldas and Father Nuno da Cunha, in 1796. The cathedral took 30 years to be completed, and was used for governmental purposes. During the African-Portuguese War, the cathedral was occupied by the forces and suffered minor damages. The cathedral was later renovated, this time with cement and stone, which is the material used to construct the current structure. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Guinea-Bissau.
