The Church of St. John the Baptist – České Budějovice in Czechia is a Baroque church located in České Budějovice, Czechia. It was constructed in the mid-18th century as a Jesuit church and is a popular nationally registered heritage site in the country. It is one of the most significant churches in South Bohemia and is remarkable for its unique annual celebration of the feast of St. John the Baptist which has been held each year since 1619. It is one of the best churches in Czechia which you must visit.

History:

The foundation stone of the church was laid in the year 1747 and it was completed in 1754. It was originally commissioned by the Jesuit Order and built to be their principal church but was taken over by the Franciscans in 1778. It was then used by the Empire forces during the Seven Years’ War. Eventually, it was taken over by the Roman Catholic church and has been used by them ever since. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Czechia.
