Church of St. Benedict In Czechia is a Romanesque church, located in the city of Prague, that dates back to the 13th century. The church was formed from two smaller churches, which are believed to have been built in 1243 and 1270. It is believed that the church was founded by a Czech nobleman named Charles I. History The church was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Wenceslaus, though it was later changed to honor St. Benedict, the patron saint of monks. The current structure is believed to have been completed in the 14th century, though records show that the current form of the structure was established by the 16th century. Facts The church features a Romanesque design with a large entrance and two side entrances, each with a four-part composition. It also features several arches and a single nave, in addition to a semi-circular sanctuary surrounded by a semicircular ambulatory. The interior has been decorated in the Baroque style, which was popular in the 17th and 18th centuries.
