Singapore: Despite 4,000 new recruits entering in the first half of 2022, the personnel of Singapore’s aviation sector is still significantly below pre-COVID levels, said Transport Minister S Iswaran on Sunday (Aug 7). If you are planning to travel to Singapore then this news is for you.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Nanyang 57th National Day Carnival 2022, Mr. Iswaran claimed that before the COVID-19 outbreak, the aviation sector employed roughly 35,000 people, but by the end of last year, that figure had dropped to 25,000.
According to the Transport Minister of Singapore, S Iswaran “There was about a one-third attrition, which is a significant loss of capability when we are trying to ramp up fast.”
“The significance of this is clear when you look at what is happening around the world. Many airports have ramped up quickly, but then subsequently had to make adjustments and even scale back, because of the challenge of manning levels,” he added.
Mr. Iswaran also added that even though Singapore has recruited 4000 new members in the aviation sector, there is still a shortage of manpower compared to pre-Covid. They have now employed around 29000 members, however many of the recruiters might not have extensive experience in this sector.
Speaking on the events of Nanyang 57th National Day Carnival 2022 the minister points out the increasing demand in the traveling sector after lifting the Covid-19 restrictions and rules for travelers. Mr. Iswaran said that before the pandemic around 35000 staff were employed in the aviation sector which got affected after the pandemic hit the world.
Post-pandemic the demand for Singapore traveling has doubled in number making it difficult for airlines to cope with the crowd.
