Keeping green and sustainable tourism in focus, the government is trying everything possible to reduce pollution and keep the city clean. 




The government has asked tourists to keep the streets, canals, and parks of Venice clean and pollution free. Furthermore, they are encouraging people to drink water from public watercoolers or fountains instead of buying water bottles (a single big source of pollution).

In order to make things simpler for visitors, the authorities have begun distributing maps of the public drinking fountains in St. Mark’s Square, a famous landmark in Venice. There are 126 public drinking fountains in all that is thought to be safe to use instead of plastic water bottles.




According to reports, tourists are responsible for around 40 percent of waste in Venice. This not only threatens the other species but also creates a problem for human beings. This is why the local authority has asked tourists to adopt plastic-free products. 

However, Venice has long struggled with over-tourism and makes a concerted effort to control visitor numbers. The nation has announced plans to implement an entrance fee for day visitors starting in 2023 in order to keep track of numbers.
