Synopsis: According to Rajkumar Patel, superintending archaeologist, “Taj Mahal will remain closed on Friday, and tourists will be able to catch a glimpse of it for four days from Saturday to Tuesday.” Interested parties can purchase tickets from the Archaeological Survey of India (A.S.I.) office one day prior to the visit.

The Taj Mahal in Agra is a famous tourist destination in India and millions of tourists visit this monument every year, making it one of the most visited monuments in the country. This year, the Taj Mahal bags the title of the highest-revenue-generating monument.




For tourists, it’s a lifetime opportunity to witness the beauty of the Taj Mahal in the moonlight. This year in October, admirers can praise the beauty of the Taj for four nights in a row during “Sharad Purnima.”

Every month, there are five opportunities to see the Taj Mahal at night, including the full moon night and the two nights before and after the night. The Archaeological Survey of India determines all these details, including dates and timing to view the Taj Mahal during the full moon period. 

A total of 400 people get the opportunity to witness the Taj every night during these five days. This year, the Taj will remain closed on the first day, i.e. Friday, for common tourists as Muslims offer namaz in the mosque. 

400 people will be divided into eight groups of about 50 people each to view the Taj Mahal at night for roughly 30 minutes each, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. 

In October 2022, Sharad Purnima will be observed on the night between October 9 and October 10. This beautiful phenomenon is known as chamki. when moonlight strikes the white marble from different angles and makes it glow like a diamond. It simply looks breathtaking!




At this particular time of year, tourists from all over the world throng to the monument to take in its beauty. The Taj Mahal was kept open for five nights each month in 2021 during the full moon.

Important details:

Dates: Taj Mahal will remain closed on Friday. Tourists will be able to visit the Taj Mahal from October 8 to 11.

Tickets: Tickets for viewing the Taj Mahal at night are available at the Archeological Survey of India, (ASI) and should be bought 24 hours in advance.

Indians: INR 510 for Adults | INR 500 for Children 3 – 15 years of age | Free for Children below 3 years

Foreigners: INR 750 for adults

Note: Only 400 people will be allowed to catch the Taj Mahal’s night view every night.

400 people will be divided into 8 slots of 50 people, and each batch will get 30 minutes to see the beautiful monument at night between 8:30 PM and 12:30 AM.
