Christmas in Mexico is not just a matter of a day, the celebration continues for months before and after the special day. There are so many places in Mexico to celebrate Christmas where you will get the best ambiance in the town. People gather on this special day to eat, dance, exchange gifts, and celebrate the festival together. Christmas in Mexico starts on 12 December and ends on the 6th of January. Even after the 6th of January, you can feel the touch of Christmas till the 2nd of February when people have to prepare tamales in their house. The preparation of Tamale is basically a part of a game that was organized by neighbors and relatives on Christmas day.

The celebration of Christmas starts on the 12th of December when all the shops and malls are decorated with lights, frills and of course a giant Christmas tree. You will see children and young people parading in every street of Mexico. All the churches are packed with visitors and local people. Some of them gather there to offer prayer to Jesus while others are here to serve the visitors with food. The official beginning of the Christmas celebration starts from 16th December with “Las Posadas”. It is a religious parade that beautifully represents the journey of Mary and Joseph. Children prepare an act for Las Posadas to tell the visitors how Mary and Joseph struggle to find a place to stay? Apart from this, relatives and friends gather at one’s house and prepare grand meals, drinks, and merry together. They also bake “Rosca de Reyes”, a sweet baked bread decorated with chocolates, cherries, and dry fruits. They put Jesus ‘ finger inside this sweet bread. Everyone present there has to tear off a piece from the cake and whoever gets the Jesus finger inside their bite has to prepare Tamale for the rest of the others on 2nd February.
