History

The nearest airport to St. Peter’s Basilica is Fiumicino, approximately 32.5 km from the Basilica. Here are ways to reach the basilica from the airport.

By Train: Unfortunately, there is no direct train from Fiumicino Airport to St. Peter’s Basilica. However, you can reach the airport by train and reach Roma S. Pietro via Roma Trastevere. From here, you can reach St. Peter’s Basilica in just 10 to 14 minutes.




Metro

The Ottaviano-S. Pietro station on Line A of the Roman Metro stops right in front of the Vatican; It is just a 5-minute walk from St. Peter’s Square, where you can reach the main attractions: the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. You can take the Metro to popular sites such as the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and Roma Termini.
